With the pandemic raging and a global economic recession just beginning, the unification of the national peso and the convertible peso may alarm Cubans. But once the adjustment filters through the economy, and with the state's promise that no one will be left behind, it could prove to be a vital step for the country's development, writes our visiting fellow Helen Yaffe (University of Glasgow).
