Water Action Hub Savannah River Clean Water Fund
lt;p>The Savannah River Clean Water Fund connects water utilities, state forestry
commissions, land trusts, landowners, corporations, and other partners, grounded in the principle that healthy
forests provide sustainably clean water to customers that is less expensive to treat, transport, and
store. By investing in “natural infrastructure” via conservation easements, Fund partners have
committed to conserving beneficial lands to maintain source water quality and numerous
ecosystem services for communities in the Basin. The 2.8 million-acre watershed is prime landscape for a Water Fund and source water protection through forest protection. Between Augusta and Savannah, the watershed is largely rural with 78% of the watershed covered by forest land, and over 500,000 acres are permanently protected.
